Mary’s Biography

What a year it has been! The manner in which our entire world would alter in a matter of a few months could never have been anticipated by anyone. We are all of the opinion that our current circumstances are extremely unusual and unheard-of.

I’ve been reflecting a lot on Mary, Jesus’ mother, and how she shared so many experiences with us. She must have experienced similar emotions to ours. Consider these:

Imagine how shocked this adolescent girl was when she learned that she was pregnant despite never having been with a man. We were also shocked to learn that a pandemic would temporarily shut down the entire world.

Confusion: Mary probably didn’t know what to do or how she would handle having children. Not only has the COVID-19 virus confused us, but also the contradictory advice we have been getting from loved ones, health officials, and the media about how to protect ourselves and others.

Conspiracy: Consider the reaction Mary received when she claimed to be a virgin bearing God’s son. Numerous individuals have stated that the pandemic’s origin, risk levels, statistics, and treatment are the subject of conspiracy theories.

Support: Joseph was the one who became Mary’s partner and Jesus’s earthly father, so he must have also been under pressure from other people. Was he the target of rumors and pressure from individuals who offered him alternative advice? Where were Mary’s sisters and mother? She probably wished that they were with her. During the pandemic, we were forced to utilize technology and distanced communication to connect with others. Numerous members of our family were also separated, just like Mary.

Legalities: The ruler made it necessary for Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem even though she was getting close to giving birth. They were required to pay their taxes and register for the census. We still needed to pay our taxes and adhere to the new laws regarding quarantine, travel, and economics, despite the fact that our governments may have delayed some of the changes to tax laws.

Health care: Mary doesn’t say if she had a doctor, a midwife, or another professional help her give birth to her first child. In fact, during her labor and delivery, she was housed in a barn with the animals because there was no room in the inn. There are also problems with health care in a lot of countries. Some were confronted with a lack of protective gear, long lines for testing, and unclear information regarding whether a vaccine will soon be available and effective.

Unknown – Mary was undoubtedly concerned about Joseph, her son, and herself. How far in the future could she see them going? We have all been concerned about the future as well. Will our nations resume their openness? What can the economy benefit from? Will there be a shortage of food? Can we have faith that “this too shall pass” and that our situation will improve in the future?

Mary put her faith in God. She went to Bethlehem in accordance with the law. In order to get help, she rusted Joseph. We faithfully observe Christmas, which coincides with Mary’s birthday, every year. Do we have faith that is even remotely comparable to Mary’s?
Due to COVID-19, we have already survived several months of uncertainty. It might be beneficial that we were unaware of what lay ahead of us at the beginning of this.

Additionally, we now face a future with numerous unknowns. Will we approach it with the love, peace, and happiness of which so much is said during the holiday season?

I think so.

Happy Holidays to everyone!
